Seek Joy, Share Joy

Find something today to be happy about! Find something today to rejoice in!!

We all have so so many blessings! The scriptures tell us, "Awake and Arise!"
My friends, there is work to be done! There are friends to make and people to love. We have this joy. You have this joy. You have the joy that others may not! Share that joy! Rejoice in this joy. We are not without blessings! We are, in fact, very blessed. If you have access to this blog, you have more than most people on the planet. You have freedom. You have the ability to share. Share your joys. Tell people about what makes you happy! Make them happy! Bring happiness to others. You have this power! Get out there and share the love of God! See people how God sees them! Love people how He loves them!

What is something someone has done to bring you joy?

Do Not Forget HOW

In this beautiful country we call home, we have the opportunities to be educated in the areas of our choice. We have health care and the right to say whatever it is we want to say! We may worship how and what we want to worship. We have blessings unnumbered. Food, clothing, warmth, democracy! We have jobs and the opportunity to work our way to better jobs!

We have all these blessings and many more, not because we worked for them, but because we have friends and family and ancestors who did and still do. On this day of remembrance for people around the world, let us not forget that people who we do not know gave all they had for our freedom. Those people did not know us in this day, but they had hope and they called us friend!

Let us keep the peace! Keep happiness and do our very best to treat others with respect and remember how it all came to be.

Christlike Attributes: Teacher

I never really paid much attention in primary... I was a crazy kid and a mama's boy! So first you had to get me into class, then you had to make me enjoy it. By the time I was 9, 10, 11, I was ready to get out! I wanted to be a Deacon. I wanted to pass the sacrament! I was so old for primary! Because of all these feelings, I had trouble sitting still and paying attention in class, even though I was a little older and probably could manage to listen if I wanted to.

My last primary teachers I had were an older couple. I remember one thing and one thing only from my years in primary. Repentance. The husband of the couple brought it up once. Only one time did he mention it. But it was the first time I heard that! The first time it stuck with me. It was one of the most meaningful lessons I had ever had in my life and it lasted for one or two sentences.

If you're a teacher, teach with the Spirit. It may not help everyone. They may not all be moved. But even if it helps one person, you've done well.

Christlike Attribute: Love

The first great commandment is to "love The Lord, thy God with all thine heart" and the second, "love thy neighbour as thyself".

Loving others can be difficult, especially when jealousy, grudges or other differences are involved. But I know one person who seems to be perfect at loving others. My seminary teacher.

The first day of seminary, I walked in and she greeted me with a warm smile and a kind hello! What kindness! I thought it was just her being a seminary teacher, you know, kind, gentle, fun. But at the end of the lesson when bearing her testimony, she told us that she loves us. I thought it was a little strange that she was telling a big group of teenagers she loves them, but as she spoke, I could tell there was a deep and affirmative sincerity in her voice.

She told us she prays for us all and wants the best for us. Because she knows the Saviour, she loves everyone she comes in contact with, especially her students. The Saviour's love for each of us is shown through her.

It is wonderful having such a great example of love in my life. We should strive to follow the examples of love we have around us. Lets show less hate and much more love.

Psalm of Nephi

Everyone, at one point or another has felt discouraged, sad, depressed and really just like there is no hope. It happens, but don't let life get you down! Get back up! Read the following, and do the steps!

2 Nephi 4

1. Write 3-4 sincere endings to this sentence: "My soul delighteth in..."
Consider these things throughout the next steps.

2. Read verses 15-16; ponder why Nephi would delight in this.

3. Nephi experienced great joy, but also much sorrow... Why? (verses 17-18)
With there being opposition in all things, we must experience both happiness and misery in order to become like our Heavenly Father.

4. Do you ever feel like Nephi? How often? (verse 19)
To whom is Nephi referring to when he says "nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted."?

5. Read verses 20-25; how has God supported Nephi?

6. How has God supported you?
Just like Nephi, we have trials, which means we also have the same support.

7. Read verses 26-30; what does Nephi want to be like?
Consider also what you would like to be like.

8. Read verses 31-35; what does he ask for? What does he commit to do?

9. Ponder 3-4 phrases or verses that best describe your thoughts and that lift your spirits.
Write them down somewhere you can look back at them.

10. In what ways do you feel the same as Nephi? After reading the "Psalm of Nephi", how will you live different?

This was taken from a seminary lesson I had. Ponder these things and pray about them. Pray for strength, it will come. Read over these verses as needed. Let the Spirit work within you to warm your heart and make happiness grow in your life. Let the sentences you made in step 1 drive you to being better. Do those things often and let your soul be happy. Share that happiness. Share the best smile you have with the people around you.

Love at Home

"Oh, there's One who smiles on high
When there's love at home"

Listening to the hymn "Love at Home", I got thinking; everything really does move more smoothly when there's love at home! When contention has ceased and has no power over the family, everything is just that much better. Sometimes it's just better not to pick fights at all.

Teach with gentle love and care in order to show family members that they're loved, and that, hey, we all make mistakes. Pressure might get things done, but it doesn't get them done well. When correcting someone - not necessarily just in the home - bring it up at the time and calmly, once you've given it thought!

Give love to those around you and let Heavenly Father show His love through you. Do something nice everyday and you'll definitely feel much better. The Spirit will be invited into your home and love will abide there.

Everyone have an awesome day, week, month, life :)

Spreading Happiness

We've all got heroes! Usually, they're older than us, more successful, or at least doing something we want to do. I've got one hero who is all of those things; minus being older and from a worldly perspective she's definitely not more successful, but she is certainly doing what I want to do.

This girl, is my baby sister. A five year-old canister full of jokes and giggles. She dances around the house with no worries. Amara will come and climb onto my shoulders unannounced. She will then laugh, pull my hair a little (just to direct me haha), and talk my ear off. You'd think she was a fairy princess! Always smiling. Always happy! Nothing gets to her. Nothing at all! She's forgiving, never judges and never fails to make us smile.

We probably all know a little one like this, or maybe a peer like this. Lets look up to them and laugh a little more. Smile when things hurt and laugh when times are rough.

This week, share a laugh with those around you! Whether you know them or not. They'll pass on the happiness if you do :)

Get Out and Help Out

The purpose of this life, the reason we are here is to help all those around us. The best way to do this is to serve.

Recently, floods struck the area in which I live. A few homes were washed away and hundreds, even thousands were flooded. Clean up is going much faster with everyone working together. Heavenly Father must be so pleased to see us helping each other. I do not believe anything would satisfy Him more than us all working together.

I heard one woman call out "Hi there neighbour!" as she walked out of her home with some muddied items to throw away. I thought "Only in extreme circumstances will you ever hear someone say that! But, isn't it wonderful how adversity brings out so much love in people?"

Today, get out and help out. In whatever way you can.

Weekly Blessings - Family

It is all too often that we don't see the blessings that we have. We have many. We have great health, safety, good entertainment, and easy communication! Which is why, starting today, I'm going to start my list of blessings. And add to it every week!

Blessing one is something that I'm guessing most people start every list of blessings with:

Family!
Now, I will focus just on my immediate family for now, but it is a lot more than that! The families we are in, we are in for a reason. We might have trouble getting along with a few of them; maybe all of them. But perhaps there's one thing, that we needed to hear, that one time, from that one sibling or parent. Call it far-fetched, but we need each other. They need you more than you know. We're all here to help each other! To make friends, to love and to laugh! Family is just built-in friends.

Returning the Favour

There have been an innumerable amount of times where we've made mistakes willingly and yet, our Father in Heaven has taken us back time and time again. We have messed up, over and over. We have said sorry for the same things so, so many times, but, He never fails to love us, and never falls short when giving us the care that we need. His gentle and loving arms are consistently open to us. And the doors to His peace are always swung wide open. We just need to ask.

So then, why as human beings is it sometimes so hard to forgive others? Why is it seemingly impossible to pass the clean slate given to us onto someone else?

As with most things, there is a parable that goes along perfectly with this principle or forgiving.

The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant:

"23 ¶Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses."  (Matthew 18:23-35)

Not only do we feel better when we are forgiven, but we feel better when we forgive others too. I would say that forgiving brings much more peace of mind than being forgiven. It lifts a weight off the shoulders and allows the mind to focus on important things, and leaves the heart to carry love, like it was meant to. Forgiving brings back friends and heals all sorts of wounds.

Let us all forgive each other. Pass on the love. And show a little more compassion to those who surround us.

Forgive someone, whether its for something big or small. Just try it out.

"32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you." (Ephesians 4:32)
